IPL 2024: Match 17 highlights of Gujarat Titans’ first innings versus PBKS

In the last few overs, Gujarat Titans went on the rampage, defeating Punjab Kings by a massive 199/4 at the scenic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

On Thursday, April 4, Gujarat Titans (GT) hosted Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Different approaches were taken by both teams as they entered the match. While PBKS suffered their second loss of the season against the Lucknow Supergiants, GT triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad at home.

After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, visiting captain Shikhar Dhawan sent in Sikandar Raza to replace the injured Liam Livingstone. Due to fitness concerns, Shubman Gill’s team started Kane Williamson in place of David Miller in the starting lineup.

Gujarat Titans: 5.4 overs and 50 runs

Wriddhiman Saha and Gill, the openers, provided Gujarat’s innings a flawless start. Then, before Kane Williamson arrived, Kagiso Rabada secured the senior of the two wickets. In the final over of the powerplay, Sam Curran produced a stunning boundary that took the score to fifty.

Shubman Gill, the skipper, opened with two clean fours and a six. The seasoned star Wriddhiman Saha went out for 11 runs off 13 balls because he could not find his hitting rhythm.

Following a strong batting opening, GT witnessed PBKS bowlers regain control of the situation. Gill and Williamson were cautious before the first timeout.

After a few overs of calm, Sai Sudharsan, who came in at 4, freed up his arms and hit boundaries. One such barrier mentioned the Titans’ 100-run mark.

The southpaw was out for 33 after hitting a couple of clean strokes before being caught behind by Jitesh Sharma off Harshal Patel. This was an unexpected move that took Vijay Shankar to the wicket.

When Harpreet Brar of the Gujarat Titans struck a four to mark his half-century, there was a huge shout. This was Gill’s nineteenth century in the history of the legendary league and his first fifty in the IPL 2024.

As Shubman Gill began to time the ball to all areas of the pitch, the home crowd at last found their voice. The hosts passed the 150-run threshold when Patel hit a six off the fourth ball of the 17th over.
