In order to advance to the next round of the T20 World Cup, Babar Azam’s team have to defeat their opponents, Canada, on Tuesday. They have already lost to the USA and India.
If they lose, their match against Ireland in Group A will be only a ceremonial match before they head home. If they defeat Ireland on Sunday and hope for other favorable outcomes in the group, a victory by a significant margin will keep them in the running.
Both fans and pundits are furious and frustrated with the way Pakistan lost to India.
Pakistan appeared to be in control at the start of the eleventh over, needing 63 runs from 59 balls with eight wickets remaining, but they lost by six runs.
Wasim Akram, the former captain, demanded that the squad be reorganized and that some of the underperforming players be cut.
Following the game, he declared, “Pakistan doesn’t deserve to go to the Super Eight after this performance.”
Azhar Mahmood, Pakistan’s assistant coach, said that the team’s defeat was caused by the batters’ poor shot selection and poor decision-making throughout the chase.
Before the game against Canada, which he referred to as a “do-or-die match,” Mahmood stated in his press conference that “it [poor performance] can come from nerves, or the fear of failure.”
“We must win both of our upcoming games.”
“We’re taking a chance.”
Their opponents, however, see the match as an opportunity to pull off yet another significant shock in the competition.
Canada’s top-order hitter Aaron Johnson stated that his side may benefit from the unpredictability of the New York pitch.
He told reporters, “We are looking to use that to our advantage because the wicket is playing some tricks and it levels the playing field for us.”
Canada had already defeated Ireland going into the game, and Johnson claimed the Maple Leafs are “fancying our chances” against a struggling Pakistani squad.
“We want to bat in a positive manner and simply support it in the field.”
Weather and pitch conditions
Since hosting its first game on June 2, the pitch in New York has slowly improved, although it still draws debates and criticism from both fans and experts.
Although teams may now score 100 or more, there are still few spectacular shots and limits.
Long Island is expected to see cloudy and humid weather on Tuesday, which should allow for a seamless game.
Head-to-head
The South Asian team defeated Canada by 35 runs in their lone Twenty20 encounter, which took place in 2008.
Guide for forms
Although neither team has won many T20 games recently, they will face one another after divergent performances
Canada’s victory against Ireland will boost their morale, but Pakistan’s two defeats in two games have highlighted their struggling batting.
