“Kohli with three foreign hitters is a formula that hasn’t produced results in almost 20 years. The RCB chose a different course than other teams, according to Chopra.
In the Indian Premier League 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in serious trouble following three straight losses. The squad captained by Faf du Plessis is now seventh in the standings, and if they don’t start winning again, they may not make it into the competition’s playoffs. Former cricket player Aakash Chopra claims that RCB’s issues began in the 2022 super auction when they lost out on Yuzvendra Chahal in favour of signing Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka.
The 46-year-old said that the choice backfired and that the franchise is not the best with Kohli and three foreign hitters in the lineup. According to Chopra, RCB has been using this formula for a very long time, but it hasn’t worked out. In addition, the team has been obstinate in sticking with the same plan despite its lack of success.

“You sold Chahal to purchase Hasranga. subsequently gave him up to make an investment in the uncapped Indian spinners. It took a while to recognise that #RCB’s bowling is a constant weak point, but it hasn’t been clear how to address it. Regarding the batting,It’s been almost twenty years since the approach of Kohli plus three foreign hitters was successful. The RCB chose not to follow the course taken by other teams,” Chopra said on his X account.
In the meantime, RCB’s hitting team has struggled mightily in the competition thus far. They have lost four of their five tournament games thus far because, with the exception of Kolhi, none of the other hitters have performed up to par. The bowling unit has also performed mediocrely. Alzarri Joseph was replaced with Reece Topley when the experiment didn’t work out in the first round, but the Englishman hasn’t performed as well.

They have Mayank Dagar and occasionally Karn Sharma in the spin department, but neither player has performed well. Although Glenn Maxwell has performed admirably, the team still needs him to be effective at bat.
