This Indian Premier League (IPL) season may have been the final one for Deepak Chahar and Mayank Yadav. Due to mid-season injuries, it seems unlikely that either will play in the remaining games for their respective teams.
“The status of Deepak’s injury is not favorable. The CEO of the Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, spoke of their new ball bowler, who injured his hamstring, “I will not say he is ruled out of the season but doubtful.” Chahar bowled just two deliveries in their final game at the Chepauk versus Punjab Kings before leaving the field.
In their upcoming match, the Chennai team will take on PBKS once more in Dharamsala on Sunday afternoon. Chahar, a 14 crore purchase, has not yet made the trip to the Himachal city. “He remains in Chennai,” Viswanathan verified. “We’re waiting for a report from the medical team.”
Coach Stephen Fleming had stated that Chahar’s situation was not favorable following the team’s Wednesday night game. “Deepak Chahar is not attractive. “I’m hoping for a more positive report when the physio and doctor have a look, because (the) initial feeling wasn’t great,” the New Zealander had stated on Wednesday.
There are additional players from CSK who struggle with fitness. Even though Tushar Deshpande has the flu, he has already arrived in Dharamsala, having missed the previous game due to a niggle similar to that of Matheesha Pathirana. “On Sunday, we will learn about their availability,” stated the CEO of CSK.
Following a strong start to the season, Chennai has lost three of its past four games, including consecutive losses to the Lucknow Super Giants. They are in fifth place in the points table with 10 points from 10 games. They have three games left to win, so the concerns about injuries might have come at the wrong time.
Similar to Mayank, who left the Lucknow game after bowling 3.1 overs, there are rumors that the side strain that sidelined him for several games prior to his draft into the Mumbai Indians game on April 30 has returned. Because of Mayank’s explosive pace, he was first the talk of the Indian Premier League and even considered for the Twenty20 Cup team. However, his growth has been hampered by fitness issues, and it is highly unlikely that he will play for LSG again this season.
With 12 points, Lucknow needs to win at least two of its final four games in order to guarantee a postseason berth. On Sunday, they take on Knight Riders.
