Rony Talukdar drafted in, Litton set to lead after Tamim’s retirement

For Bangladesh’s final two one-day international matches against Afghanistan, Rony Talukdar will play.

A senior BCB official verified the information to Cricbuzz, noting that the side now needs a third opener after ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal unexpectedly retired from international cricket.

During the home series against Ireland, the selectors gave Talukdar his maiden call-up as a replacement for the injured batter, Zakir Hasan.Talukdar travelled to England with the team to play in three One-Day Internationals against Ireland.

Before his unexpected vacation permitted him to rejoin the ODI team, Tamim, however, lost his starting position during the Afghanistan series.

According to the insider, Shakib al Hasan is the front-runner for the captaincy position, and Litton Kumar Das will likely lead the team until they select a new captain. According to the spokesperson, “Rony (Talukdar) will be drafted into the squad as we need another opener in the squad considering there isn’t a Tamim Iqbal for us.”

Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh utilising the D/L method on July 5 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium by a margin of 17 runs. They will play their second and third games there on July 8 and July 11, respectively.

Tamim had already left the team hotel and was at his residence in Chattogram. The batter, Zakir Hasan, comes from a Chattogram cricket family, with his older brother Nafees Iqbal and uncle Akram Khan having played for Bangladesh. He was one of the most dependable players and ultimately the team captain.

At a late-night emergency board meeting that BCB has scheduled, the board will talk about Tamim’s decision to stop playing international cricket.

Top board executives tried to contact Tamim before he made his official retirement announcement, but were unable. They sent a former national captain to personally speak with him as a result.
