In an exciting IPL 2024 match played at Eden Gardens on Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a thrilling one run.

On April 21, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a thrilling one run in a high-scoring IPL 2024 match played at Eden Gardens. In spite of RCB’s outstanding pursuit effort, KKR maintained composure to protect 222.

The current KKR coach, Gautam Gambhir, was quick to praise the opponent’s remarkable fighting spirit and character despite RCB’s tragic loss. He praised the guests’ efforts on his X handle. “RCB demonstrated incredible character today,” his post said.

Phil Salt of KKR had a strong opening with his fast-bowling 48 from 14 balls. After being selected to bat first, captain Shreyas Iyer held on to one end and hit 50 off 36 to achieve a total of 222/6.

After losing Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis for very little, RCB’s run chase took a bad turn, but Will Jacks (55 off 32) and Rajat Patidar (52 off 23) steadied the ship and put up 102 runs for the third wicket to pull the team back into the game.

When it appeared that RCB had the better of the match, veteran Andre Russell struck twice in one over to send the game to the hosts, first taking out Jacks and Patidar in the same over and then the dangerous Dinesh Karthik in the penultimate over. RCB was bowled out for 221 despite having a chance to win with 19 runs remaining in the last over, but they were painfully short by one run.

Their stunning counterattacking knocks from Jacks and Patidar helped them turn the tables starting at 35/2. Karn Sharma’s powerful punches against Mitchell Starc in the last over demonstrated RCB’s will to battle to the very end, even if Russell appeared to have put KKR ahead for good.
