The Indian cricket team will play the West Indies in a white-ball series beginning on Friday, July 22, after winning the T20I and ODI series in England.
A three-match ODI series and five T20I matches precede India’s Caribbean visit.
Several of its best players, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami, have been rested for the ODI format.
Shikhar Dhawan will captain the 16-man ODI team in Rohit’s absence, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja serving as Dhawan’s deputy.
Sanju Samson, a wicket-keeper batsman, and opener Shubman Gill have been called up to the ODI team. In place of the very effective Rishabh Pant, Samson will be the backup wicketkeeper, with Ishan Kishan serving as the first-choice gloveman.
For the five-match T20I series, the BCCI has also chosen to rest leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Bumrah, and Kohli.
The T20I team, which includes players like Pant, Pandya, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, will be led by Rohit again.
Ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, off-spinner Ashwin also makes a comeback to the T20I lineup, but Rahul and Kuldeep have been added to the 18-man roster pending health clearance.
The West Indies’ ODI team for the India series has also been revealed. Former captain Jason Holder will also return to the West Indies ODI team, which will be captained by wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran.
In the just finished ODI home series against Bangladesh, Holder was rested, and the Caribbean team lost badly, losing 0–3.
The Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, will host all of the India tour to the West Indies 2022 One-Day International matches. The first Twenty20 International will take place at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad once the ODI series is over, while the next two will be held at Warner Park in St Kitts.
Later, the Men in Blue will go to the United States to play the remaining two Twenty20 Internationals at Florida’s Central Broward Regional Park Stadium.
