The Indian cricket team will play the West Indies in a white-ball series that begins on Friday, July 22, following their victories in the T20I and ODI series in England.
Five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches precede the three-match ODI series that opens India’s Caribbean visit.
Many of the visiting team’s top players, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami, have been rested for the One-Day International format.
Shikhar Dhawan will captain the 16-man ODI team without Rohit, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja serving as Dhawan’s deputy.
Sanju Samson, the wicketkeeper batsman, and opener Shubman Gill have been called up to the ODI team. In place of the highly effective Rishabh Pant, Samson has been introduced. He will be the backup option for a wicketkeeper, with Ishan Kishan being the primary pick.
For the five-match T20I series, the BCCI has also chosen to rest leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Bumrah, and Kohli.
Leading the T20I team that includes players like Pant, Pandya, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja will be Rohit again.
With the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia approaching, off-spinner Ashwin also makes a comeback to the Twenty20 International team, alongside Rahul and Kuldeep, who have been included to the 18-man roster pending health clearance.
The West Indies’ ODI team for the India series has also been revealed. The West Indies ODI team, captained by wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran, will also welcome back former captain Jason Holder.
Holder was given a break during the just finished ODI home series against Bangladesh, a 0-3 rout for the Caribbean team.
The Queen Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, will host all of the 2022 India tour of the West Indies One-Day Internationals. The first Twenty20 International (T20I) is set to take place in Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium once the ODI series is over, with the next two T20Is taking place at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
Afterwards, the Men in Blue will fly to Florida’s Central Broward Regional Park Stadium to play the remaining two Twenty20 Internationals.
