I like that Cummins and MS Dhoni are quite similar. Moody’s Tom

Known mostly for his bowling power in Test and ODI cricket, Cummins surprised many with his smart decisions during the IPL 2024 encounter by showcasing his leadership abilities.

Pat Cummins led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to an incredible victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a commanding margin of six wickets in an exciting match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, energising the home crowd. Former Australian cricket player and SRH coach Tom Moody was overcome with admiration for Cummins’ unconventional style of captaincy.

Known mostly for his bowling power in Test and ODI cricket, Cummins surprised many with his smart decisions during the IPL 2024 encounter by showcasing his leadership abilities. Moody compared Cummins’ strategy to that of the venerable MS Dhoni.

The one similarity between Cummins and MS Dhoni that I admire about him. According to ESPNcricinfo, Moody stated that he is ready to make a choice that most people wouldn’t consider but that leaves you wondering, “Why didn’t I think about that?”

Over to Abhishek Sharma, it was a strange choice: M&T

What was notable was Cummins’ choice to give the ball to Abhishek Sharma in the beginning rather than seasoned player Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Moody’s praised Cummins’ creative thinking and his propensity for making unusual decisions that frequently have unanticipated results.

“As good as Abhishek Sharma. When you consider the other possibilities they had, it was a somewhat strange choice. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar, you may have the best new ball bowler in IPL history. When it comes to left-handers, you have an off-spinner. You would assume Markram would be the next one. There were plenty alternative options available to him. However, he made that commitment, and it appeared that he had persuaded himself that it was the appropriate choice right away,” he continued.

With four points and a remarkable net run rate of +0.409 after this win, SRH shot up to fifth place in the IPL 2024 points standings, mostly thanks to their potent performances at home. With SRH gearing up to face Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh on April 9, all eyes will be on Cummins and his creative leadership to lead the team to more championship triumph.
