The only International cricket in Wales this summer sees england cricket team vs new zealand national cricket team timeline on Friday, 8th September.
Before the two teams square off in Cardiff later this year, we look back at some of the best games ever played between them. This matchup has provided some incredible action over the past few years.
World Cup Final in 2019
The most epic Final ever, won by England by the narrowest of margins.
After a thrilling match that ended in a stalemate twice, England defeated New Zealand to win the men’s World Cup for the first time.
Both teams scored 241 in their 50 overs in an intense and passionate atmosphere at Lord’s, and when they batted for one extra over each, they were equal at 15.
That meant that England had won the world series since they had more boundary fours and sixes during the entire game—26 compared to New Zealand’s 17.
It was incredible that it progressed to that point, especially since the first World Cup Final tie at the home of cricket produced an almost unbelievable outcome.
From the last over of the regular match, England needed to score fifteen. when hitting a six, Ben Stokes was awarded four overthrows when a deep ball struck his bat and deflected.
Mark Wood was run out returning for the second ball, thus he was unable to collect the two needed from the final delivery. Nevertheless, he finished with 84 not out and joined Jos Buttler for the super over.
Wellington, February 2023: A thriller
In a thrilling one-run match, New Zealand defeated England and created history by winning the follow-on.
Taking the game away from England on a dramatic final day in Wellington, New Zealand became just the fourth side in history to win a Test after following on, and the second to win by a margin of just one run. During the afternoon session, Neil Wagner set the tone with a short-ball onslaught and culminated the comeback by capturing the final wicket at Basin Reserve as tensions rose.
After a century partnership between Ben Stokes and Joe Root, Wagner finished with 4 for 62 as the home team rallied to cause England’s first Test series loss in seven years and guarantee a tied series.
June 2022: The genius of Bairstow as Bazball starts
Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow storm to a seven-wicket victory and a clean sweep of the series for England.
After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay, Jonny Bairstow stormed out of the dressing room with Joe Root, leading them to a 3-0 series victory on the last afternoon at Headingley in only 15.2 overs of furious action.
A seemingly intimidating target (296 this time, compared to 277 at Lord’s and 299 at Trent Bridge) was chased down with absurd haste for the third time in as many games. After hitting two centuries in his opening two innings, Bairstow raced to his second-fastest fifty in Test history in 29 balls. By the time he ran out of road at 71 not out from 44 balls, he had destroyed Root’s hopes of matching Daryl Mitchell’s record of hitting hundreds in all three Tests.
