At the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, Mexico, Inter Miami CF defeated 3-1 to C.F. Monterrey after falling to 10 men in the second leg of their 2024 Concacaf quarterfinal encounter. The game concluded the Club’s inaugural involvement in the tournament.
Notes about the Lineup
Inter Miami’s second leg began in Monterrey with Drake Callender in goal; a five-man back line consisting of Marcelo Weigandt, Tomás Avilés, Nicolás Freire, Noah Allen, and Jordi Alba; midfielders Julian Gressel, Sergio Busquets, and Diego Gómez; and an attacking lineup led by Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
Action in Matches
Due to both teams’ strong defenses, the first half was a hotly contested encounter in which neither team created many offensive opportunities. Nevertheless, Brandon Vazquez, a striker, gave the home team the lead in the 31st minute, and Monterrey led 1-0 at the half.
With goals in the 58th and 64th minutes, Monterrey was able to increase their advantage in spite of Inter Miami’s attempts.
But in the 85th minute, Inter Miami managed to reduce the host’s lead by one thanks to a header from Gómez inside the area following a Messi pass. Gómez and Messi have their first goals and assists of the competition.
The final minutes at the Estadio BBVA saw no change to the 3-1 result, as Inter Miami concluded their inaugural Concacaf Champions Cup campaign.
After-Match Response
