Eagles $53 million star predicted to ditch Philly for ‘sizable raise’ with Patriots

After a dismal half-decade, the New England Patriots are aiming to return to Super Bowl glory.  Would it be possible to sign a free agent from the current champions?

The Patriots’ poor performance at the line of scrimmage cost them games during the season.  On both sides of the ball, opposing lines forced their will on New England, making it impossible for rookie quarterback Drake Maye to become comfortable holding the ball.

Thankfully, the Patriots have all the money they need to improve their lines this spring.  And one of their top objectives may be a defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles.

In order to significantly strengthen their run defense and interior pass rush, CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell forecast on Friday that the Patriots will acquire Eagles standout Milton Williams, who had his greatest season in 2024 at the age of 25.

“Williams’ two sacks of Patrick Mahomes during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX triumph served as the ideal justification for ending his contract year.  There will shortly be a significant rise,” Podell stated.

“New England has the most effective cap space in the NFL ($119.6 million), per OverTheCap.com, and the Patriots upgrade one of their defensive tackle spots with an ascending talent.”

In 2024, Williams recorded a career-high five sacks and ten quarterback hits while playing a career-high 48 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps.  The Super Bowl demonstrated his ability to perform at the highest level of the game, and New England intends to go back there in the upcoming years.

Based on estimated market value, Spotrac now forecasts Williams will sign a three-year contract worth $53 million.  However, that could be the price of doing business if the Patriots have to blow that prediction out of the water to persuade him to leave the comforts of Philadelphia.
