Serie a standings

Serie a standings is the main competition in Italian football, having been established in 1898. The Coppa Campioni d’Italia and the Scudetto are given to the Serie A champion.

The Serie A has been played in a round-robin style, with each team playing the other side in a home and away match, since the 1929–30 season. The winner was determined through regional and inter-regional rounds prior to this.

The highest tier Out of the top five European leagues, the Italian league is thought to be the most defensive and tactical.

Twenty Italian teams have participated in every season of Serie A since 2004–05.

The Coppa Italia champions and the top four teams in Serie A advance straight to the UEFA Champions League, while the fifth-placed club advances to the UEFA Europa League.

At the end of the season, the three teams who finish lowest are demoted to Serie B. The top three teams from Serie B take their position.

The First World War caused the Serie A to be postponed from 1915 to 1919, and the Second World War caused the league to be canceled again from 1944 to 1945.

After finishing first in the 2023–24 Serie A standings, Inter Milan is the current champion team. Inter won their 20th Serie A championship, defeating AC Milan and Juventus, their bitter rivals.
