Bangladesh’s One-Day International skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, may not be able to start against India due to a left quad injury he sustained in their match against New Zealand.
To prepare for the pivotal matchup with India, the Bangladeshi team flew from Chennai to Pune on Saturday.
Shakib was brought to the hospital for a scan as soon as he finished his 10-over allowance because he was having problems hitting at one point. An MRI was performed on the left quadricep muscle, the affected region
The physiotherapist for the national squad, Bayjedul Islam Khan, said: “The sportsman had pain in his left quadriceps during his batting stroke. The next ten overs were spent by him bowling and fielding. He had an MRI after the game, and we will continue to monitor his condition going forward. His daily development will be clinically evaluated, and we’ll modify our action plan as necessary.
“I am not sure whether he is available for the next game or not, but there is certainly some doubt since he has sustained a slight tear,” a BCB spokesperson said.
The official said they are crossing their fingers that he is included in the starting lineup for the match against India on October 19. They were unable to determine whether the tear is a grade one or two, though.
If Shakib is forced to lose time due to injury, Bangladesh, who are eager to win their next two games against England and New Zealand after winning the first one against Afghanistan, could suffer a serious blow.
